A Piezoelectret-based Flexible Sensor for Pulse Monitoring

Abstract

Human pulse signals can provide useful information in diagnosis of diseases. Although there exist various sensor technologies for pulse detection, however, they are sometimes limited in clinic applications due to either the sensing structure or the sensing material. Piezoelectrets are a new type of sensing material, which have several advantages in both material and sensing performance. In this paper, a pulse sensor was fabricated based on flexible piezoelectret films and well-designed sensing structure. Besides, a signal processing system was specially built up for signal analysis. The results show that the piezoelectret-based sensor could clearly record human pulse signals and the systolic peak, diastolic peak, and dicrotic notch could be recognized. The sensor can be wore on human wrist, which benefits its clinic applications. This preliminary work would provide a new approach for monitoring human physiological signals.
