Octagonal Ultrawideband Antenna with Circular Notch for Microwave Imaging

Abstract

In recent years, microwave imaging is considered to be the solution of cancer detection. One of the important component in microwave imaging is antenna. A microstrip octagonal antenna with circular notch and modified ground structure is presented in this paper. In simulation the frequency range of the antenna from 2.3 to 12 GHz with coefficient reflection ≤-10 dB is achieved. The antenna has physical dimension of 47 × 41 × 1.6 mm. As substrate, antenna use epoxy (FR-4) with dielectric constant of 4.6 and dielectric loss tangent of 0.025. In addition, the fabricated antenna has frequency range 2.16-12 GHz. But, the proposed antenna meets the criteria commonly used for microwave imaging.
