Abstract

Mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) have become a compulsive and interesting technology in recent years because of the rapid development of wireless devices. Tremendous growth and development with wide usage of internet also raises concerns about how to protect and communicate the digital information in a safe manner. Nowadays, hackers deploy variety of attacks to get valuable information and this has given rise to the threats on the MANET. One of these security threats is black hole attack in which the attacked node drops all received data packets intended for forwarding in-order to reach the destination. A synthesis of this attack has been performed by establishing an attack model of black hole. After the creation of the environment, network performance are analyzed by performing simulations in different network scenarios using NS2 simulator. The metrics chosen for studying the performance are throughput, Packet Delivery Ratio, Packet Drop.
