The CdSe and Cd1-xZnxSe(0≤x≤0.95) thin films were successfully deposited onto the spectroscopic grade micro slides using a simple and inexpensive chemical bath deposition technique. Film synthesis was carried out at the pre-optimized deposition conditions: (pH = 10.2, TEA = 1.8 ml, temperature =70 °C and time=90 min). The physical observations revealed change in the film colour from bright orange red to faint orange red when Zn was incorporated into CdSe host. The deposited CdSe and Cd1−xZnxSe thin films are hexagonal wurtzite in structure with a preferential orientation along (002). Atomic force and electrostatic force microcopies were employed to observe the surface topogaraphic features of the deposited layers. 3-D AFM topographs revealed hillocks and valleys indicating polycrystalline nature of the films. The EFM topographs showed colour variation attributing to the randomly oriented numeral electric domains. The optical band gap is found to be increased with the addition of Zn in host CdSe.
