Penyerapan limbah cair amonia menggunakan arang aktif ampas kopi

Abstract

Coffee grounds can be utilized as adsorbents, research on the use of coffee grounds has been widely practiced. Aceh is an area of coffee producers, the number of coffee shops in the area of Aceh will certainly also easily obtained coffee grounds. This research used coffee waste as an adsorbent for absorption of ammonia waste found in urea fertilizer factory liquid waste outlet. Activation of adsorbent was carried out using HCl 0.1 M for 48 hours and continued with calcination at 400oC for 3.5 hours to improve the ability adsorbent absorption. Based on morphological analysis using SEM, there is a thickening on the pores of the adsorbent wall which indicates the ammonia attachment. The changed variable used is the length of contact time and the amount of adsorbent mass. From approach using Freundlich isotherm obtained R2 equal to 0.9316. The highest adsorption capacity was obtained at contact time of 120 minutes with an amount of adsorbent of 0.4 grams. Abstrak Ampas kopi dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai adsorben, penelitian mengenai penggunaan ampas kopi ini telah banyak dilakukan. Aceh merupakan suatu daerah produsen kopi, banyaknya jumlah warung kopi didaerah Aceh tentunya akan dengan mudah pula ampas kopi diperoleh. Penelitian ini menggunakan ampas kopi sebagai adsorben untuk penyerapan limbah amonia yang banyak ditemukan pada outlet limbah cair pabrik pupuk urea.Aktivasi adsorben dilakukan menggunakan HCl 0,1 M selama 48 jam dan dilanjutkan dengan proses kalsinasi pada temperatur 400oC selama 3,5 jam untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penyerapan adsorben. Berdasarkan analisa morfologi menggunakan SEM terlihat adanya penebalan pada dinding-dinding pori adsorben yang menandakan telah melekatnya amonia. Variabel berubah yang digunakan adalah lamanya waktu kontak dan jumlah massa adsorben. Dari pendekatan menggunakan isoterm Freundlich diperoleh R2 sebesar 0,9316. Kapasitas adsorbsi yang paling tinggi diperoleh pada waktu kontak 120 menit dengan jumlah adsorben sebanyak 0,4 gram.
