Low-complexity MMSE signal detection algorithm based on BiCGSTAB method for uplink massive MIMO systems

Abstract

For large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, the near-optimal algorithm of minimum mean square error (MMSE) method is widely used for uplink signal detection, but the matrix inversion process leads to high computational complexity. In this paper, a low-complexity signal detection algorithm based on biconjugate gradient stabilized (BiCGSTAB) method is proposed. A special property of the MMSE filtering matrix indicates the appropriateness of this algorithm and the computational complexity analysis shows that this method is capable to reduce the complexity from O(K 3 ) to O(K 2 ) and can be easier to implement on FPGA. Finally, simulation result verifies the advantage of BiCGSTAB algorithm over other stationary iterative algorithms.
