Abstract

A well-planned supply chain (SC) provides satisfactory results in company profits. However, many SMEs in Argentina lack good practices in this field. Therefore, this study aims to strengthen SMEs through the design and implementation of a methodology which enables the classification of SC companies, thus making it possible to identify the appropriate strategies to apply in these enterprises. In addition, the alignment between the strategies applied conclusively by the companies studied and those recommended in the proposed methodology is analyzed. Results show that most companies have a “routine SC with a low degree of influence from the focal company”. Consequently, the strategies to implement include standardized products, low prices, consistent quality, low profile, and standard response capability, amongst others. Moreover, 62% of the companies admit they implement strategies contrary to those recommended in the methodology.
