Abstract

A novel metamaterial based electromagnetic absorber is presented. The structure of the absorber comprises of two split ring resonator, four square patches and a cross shaped patch printed over a dielectric substrate. The structure shows strong absorption bandwidth from 8.3 GHz to 16.58 GHz covering entire X-band and a part of Ku-band. The designed absorber has polarization insensitive behavior due to its four fold structural symmetry. Also the structure is insensitive to the wide angle of incidence. The designed absorber is compact, thin and can be used as a shield for EMI/EMC applications.
