A simple tool for automatic extraction of the Moroccan coastal upwelling from sea surface chlorophyll images

Abstract

The goal of this paper is to detect and extract automatically and efficiently the Moroccan coastal upwelling region that defines a high chlorophyll concentration. In this context, we processed 45 Sea Surface Chlorophyll images of the year 2015 using thresholding algorithm by Otsu's method in order to determine simply and comfortably this area. The output images has been tested and validated by an oceanographer. This validation indicates that our proposed methodology gives satisfactory and good results.
