Abstract

Tribological properties of PEEK and a carbon fiber filled PEEK composite (CF-PEEK) were studied by rubbing them against a steel counterface at a load of 300-1500N and a velocity of 1.0m/s under oil-lubrication. The friction coefficient and wear rate of CF-PEEK were almost the same as contact load increased. The wear rates of both PEEK and CF-PEEK under high contact load conditions were much lower than those of WJ2 and CAC603. It was found that filling of carbon fiber with PEEK improves the wear resistance as well as load resistance and heat resistance.
