Abstract

Soot was sampled using a quartz probe, brass plate and an electrostatic sampler from pre-mixed flames of methane/air, propane/air, air and ethylene/air. Paraffin wax, wooden sticks of Ramin (Gonystylus Warbariganus) and Perspex PMMA (Polymethyl methacrylate) were also burned in air and soot was sampled from the resulting diffusion flames. The samples of soot were examined qualitatively using a transmission electron microscope.
