Abstract

This text relates to the situation of the Brazilian urban population growth and its new forms of spatial reorganization. The aim is to monitor the evolution of the urban population in the country since 1940 to 2010, especially for the period from 1970 to 2010 the configuration of metropolitan growth. The current process of urbanization presents regional specificities, contributing to the urban areas want to be they metropolitan or non-metropolitan, conform to expand and consolidate, in this context, migration begin to play a critical role. In this scenario, the old metropolitan areas continue as the largest concentrations socio-spatial and urban areas of the country, distinguishing themselves from the recent metropolitan agglomerations, as well as non-metropolitan urban agglomerations.
