Contention window based QoS DCC-MAC for wireless multimedia sensor networks

Abstract

Large numbers of wireless nodes are deployed and embedded in our everyday life with the popular of the WSN. However, the emerging new applications like video surveillance, telemedicine and traffic monitoring need transmission of wireless multimedia over sensor networks. Recently quality of service (QoS) for wireless multimedia sensor networks has received significant attention. So QoS MAC protocol which offering application-specific QoS is called for. DCC-MAC (Dynamic Channel Coding MAC) is a joint architecture of PHY and MAC. It allows concurrent transmissions of different pairs of source and destination with interference mitigation scheme. In this paper, we proposed a QoS MAC based on DCC-MAC for WMSN. Simulation results show that it achieves high throughput and provides lower delay for higher priority class traffic. So this MAC protocol is very suitable for wireless multimedia sensor networks.
