BOOK-CHAPTER

Organosilicon Polymers as Precursors for Silicon-Containing Ceramics

Abstract

Following general comments about the preceramic polymer approach to the preparation of ceramic materials, we describe the preparation of a novel polysilazane by dehydrocyclodimerization of the ammonolysis product of CH3SiHCl2, or coammonolysis products of CH3SiHCl2 with other chlorosilanes, the conversion of such polymers to ceramic products and their use in upgrading Si-H containing organosilicon polymers, e.g., methylhydrogenpolysiloxane, to more useful ceramic precursors.
