Jean K. Chalaby

Year: 1998 Palgrave Macmillan UK eBooks Pages: 141-166   Publisher: Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract

This chapter further develops the link between economic competition and the journalistic discourse. It pursues the task set previously of establishing a causal relationship between the conflictual nature of the relations of production within the journalistic field and certain aspects of the journalistic discourse. This chapter examines three discursive strategies which are particularly connected to competitive struggles: crusadism, jingoism and sensationalism.
