Based on the exponentiated Weibull distribution of scintillations, transmit lasers selection combining (SC) method, intensity modulation/ direct detection with on-off keying modulation, the optimization of an adaptive tracking free-space optical (FSO) communication link with single-input multiple-output (SIMO) is investigated. The closed-form mathematical expression for average bit error rate is derived. The effects of scintillation, the number of receive branches, and aperture averaging are included. Results for SC techniques and aperture averaging mitigating turbulence-induced fading and improving the quality of FSO links, and average SNR being important roles in determining the system performance are presented by employing the numerical analysis.
