Interferometrically Decoded Fiber Optic Laser Doppler Velocimeter

Abstract

We describe a fiber optic velocimeter which is based on the measurement of the Doppler- frequency-shifted light reflected from a moving surface using interferometric processing. The range of the interferometrically decoded fiber optic velocimeter is scalable from less than 1 mm/s up to 1000 km/s.
