Interference aware routing in multi-radio multi-channel wireless mesh networks

Abstract

An interference aware routing algorithm for multi-radio WMNs (Wireless Mesh Networks) is presented in this paper. It can choose high-throughput and low-interference paths by using a new path metric ERC (Expected Residual Capacity). Combined with the idea of multi-path routing, the algorithm can distribute traffic among several optimized paths to maximize the utilization of multiple radios. Simulation results show that the interference aware routing can reduce communication interference and balance network traffic effectively. The aggregate network throughput of our routing surpasses the standard 802.11 networks greatly and outperforms existing multi-channel routing too.
