Mn(H2PO4)2 · 2H2O crystallizes in space group P21/n, a = 5.3774(8), b = 10.170(2), c = 7.315(2) Å, β = 94.79(1)°. The structure was determined by three-dimensional Patterson synthesis on the basis of 1019 independent reflexions collected on a four-circle diffractometer and refined by least-squares methods to a final R value of 0.035. The structure consists of Mn2+ and H2PO4− ions and water molecules and is built up by layers of MnO6 and PO4 polyhedra, extending parallel to the (101) crystallographic plane. The adjacent layers are linked by three short hydrogen bonds, while the fourth acts between PO4 groups in the same layer. Water oxygen atoms appear as hydrogen bond donors and bond acceptors as well.
