Abstract Dicesium strontium tetraazide crystallizes with a = 1264.2(1), b = 1454.5(2), c = 1183.3(l)pm, N = 8, space group Cmcm . The crystal structure has been determined by means of single crystal X-ray data (1061 independent counter reflections, 384 unobserved). The positions of the cesium and strontium atoms have been found by Patterson synthesis, these of the nitrogen atoms by Fourier methods. The structure was refined by least squares calculations to a final R -value of 0.063. The heavy atoms are surrounded by eight azide groups. Strontium and cesium(2) are only in the neighbourhood of terminal-itrogen atoms, cesium(l) has also four central N-Atoms of azide groups as next neighbours. The azide groups are all linear und symmetric, the N–N-distances are 117(2)pm.
