Graphitization under High Pressure

Abstract

The graphitization behaviour under high pressures (mostly 0.5 GPa) is reviewed by showing the experimental results on various carbons. The changes in crystal structure, microscopic texture and macroscopic texture in the carbons heat-treated under high pressures, and also the effect of preliminary treatment of the samples on the high pressure graphitization are shown. The graphitization mechanism is discussed on the basis of these experimental results.
