Abstract

The principal issues faced in intelligent building design and construction are presented. The components of the intelligent building are placed into four main categories-facilities management, information management, connectivity, and overall control-and each of these is examined. Multitenant shared services, the changing nature of building components, and the benefits of intelligent building management are briefly discussed. Six stages in the realization of an intelligent building are defined, and its cost benefits are examined.< >
