Cache alternatives concerning cache coherence in NoC-based MPSoC platform

Abstract

The cache coherence problem is an open issue on MPSoC environments. Some solutions have been purposed to solve it. However, few have been address the problem considering Networks-on-Chip as interconnection mechanism. The directory solution is the most feasible solution for cache coherence problem in such systems. This paper present two cache alternatives concerning cache coherence in NoC based MPSoC systems. The first alternative is the discard of the data cache eliminating the cache coherence problem. The second alternative is to use a read-only data cache and hence, eliminate the writing operations that create the cache coherence problem. The results show that these approaches generate very different amounts of NoC traffic and response for memory accesses.
