Abstract

It is shown that the different antiferromagnetic arrangements of ordered magnetic spins in the identical lattices of α-Fe2O3 and Cr2O3 can be explained by the overlap of suitably directed oxygen p orbitals and the differently populated d orbitals of the Fe3+ and Cr3+ ions.
