Concrete embedded optical fibre Bragg grating strain sensors

Abstract

The evaluation and use of fibre sensors in civil structures have increased. Fibre Bragg grating sensors have proved to be very well suited for applications such as structural health and performance monitoring. This paper reports on the use of Bragg gratings for strain measurements in concrete embedded civil structures. Sensors, attached to steel rebar, were characterized and subsequently embedded into the concrete deck of a steel truss bridge.
