Investigation of Applicability of Advanced Oxidation Processes for Industrial Wastewater Treatment

Abstract

The theories of advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) used in industrial wastewater treatment such as ozone at high pH (pH>11), Ozone/Hydrogen Peroxide, Ozone/UV, Hydrojen Peroxide/UV, O3/H2O2/UV and Vacuum Ultraviolet (VUV) processes have been given and the treatability studies of industrial wastewater by these methods have been examined extensively in this study. COD, TOC, colour and phenol removal efficiencies have been obtained 87-99%, 80-95%, 91-100%, 90-100%, respectively in the example studies. Finally, it has been shown that advanced oxidation processes treated industrial wastewater by successfully and reduced the pollutant quantities until discharge criterias according to removal efficiencies obtained from these studies. Al- though the treatment efficiency of advanced oxidation processes is very high, more treatment cost of AOPs can be determine a disavantage.
