Energy efficient resource allocation for multiple primary and secondary users in cognitive radio networks with limited primary users' cooperation

Abstract

This paper studies a cognitive radio network (CRN) consisting of multiple secondary users (SUs). The SUs are allowed to share the channels licensed to multiple primary users (PUs) on condition that the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) on each channel at the PU is higher than a threshold. The problem of joint channel and power allocation for both the PUs and the SUs are investigated. The objective is to maximize the energy efficiency of the SUs with limit cooperation from the PUs subject to the SINR constraint at the PUs and the transmit power constraints of the SUs and the PUs. Based on the Dinkelbach method, the dual method and the Hungarian method, an iterative resource allocation algorithm is proposed. The impacts of the SINR constraint and the transmit power constraints on the energy efficiency are investigated by extensive simulation results. It is shown that the proposed algorithm converges fast and significantly outperforms the other algorithms.
