Abstract

All stacked up: The f elements, too, can form well-defined multidecker sandwich complexes—as long as a suitable ligand set is chosen. In the case of the title compound, a combination of pentamethylcyclopentadienyl and 1,3,6-tris(trimethylsilyl)cyclooctatetraenyl ligands (cot′′′) was employed to give a nearly linear stacked Yb3 arrangement (see picture).
