Two split ring resonators (SRRs) are fed by a very short T junction ended coaxial line and have a broadside radiation at low frequency. The ground backed dielectric substrate on which the SRRs are etched also functions as a dielectric resonator (DR) radiator at high frequency. Two DR modes are excited by the aid of the SRRs. With proper design, the SRR resonances and DR resonances are merged to achieve a 43.2% impedance matching bandwidth and 31.4% radiation bandwidth over which the antenna polarization and radiation pattern are preserved. The simulated minimum gain within the band is greater than 7 dB. The total thickness of the antenna is only 0.09λ, which satisfies many low profile requirements.
