Heuristic resource allocation for multiuser OFDM distributed antenna system with fairness constraints

Abstract

In this paper, two heuristic resource allocation algorithms are proposed for downlink of multiuser orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) distributed antenna system (DAS). The objectives are to maximize total system rate under fairness among users constraint. Unlike the existing algorithms that allocate each subcarrier to only one user within the system, the proposed algorithms are based on shared criterion that allow each subcarrier to be allocated to multiple users through different antennas. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can provide much higher spectral efficiency than the previous algorithm at the expense of the fairness. The improved algorithm can obtain a tradeoff between spectral efficiency and the fairness.
