Dynamic admission control in IEEE 802.11e EDCA-based wireless home network

Abstract

In this paper, we introduce a dynamic admission control (DAC) to protect and maintain QoS-demanding traffic streams in IEEE 802.11e enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) based wireless home network. The proposed DAC dynamically adjusts to achieve high bandwidth utilization while maintaining the desired QoS in a deteriorative channel condition. The ITU-T H.263++ scalable video codec and NS-2-based simu- lation results show that the proposed DAC can efficiently balance the tradeoff between resource utilization and QoS guarantee in unstable wireless home network.
