Due to the rapid increase of innovation networks in recent years, research in this field has grown significantly. The existing literature focuses on innovation search, how innovation networks are developed or the optimal network structure and learning in networks. This study aims to create a holistic view of innovation network management. Our findings highlight the systemic nature of gerontechnological innovations and its influence on the engineered development of such networks. We suggest that the management benefits from a multihub intermediate organisation comprised of the state, university and private sectors. Such an intermediate actor can successfully orchestrate both the structure and dynamics of the network to enhance trust and minimise opportunism.
