Attenuation compensation technique for an X-band polarimetric weather radar

Abstract

There is an increasing interest for a low cost X-band radar systems to be used for urban rainfall monitoring, for airport weather surveillance or other short range purposes. However at X-band the reflectivity measurements are significantly affected by attenuation due to the precipitation, an attenuation correction is needed and some related techniques are described.
