Abstract A computer‐aided design algorithm is developed to facilitate the design of E‐plane series‐fed patch arrays. A rigorous moment method is used to compute the impedance of and the currents on each patch element in the array. Mutual coupling between adjacent patch elements is included in the computation. Experimental validation of the algorithm is reported. The effects of fabrication tolerance, material parameter variations, and mutual coupling on the array performance are highlighted.
