Material and layout strategy for ferrite embedded LTCC inductors

Abstract

The integration of inductors in LTCC technology with new ferrite material for the VHF and UHF frequency range is investigated. The complex interdependencies of ferrite material properties and inductor layout choices are elucidated and new material as well as inductor optimization strategies are derived. Two basic relations for the ferrite permeability are deduced that show the possible range of ferrite properties for the VHF and UHF frequency range. With the model of a fully or partially ferrite embedded stripline, the choice of ferrite material and layer thickness is clarified. A step-by-step optimization strategy for inductor design in a LTCC process with ferrites summarizes the results.
