Photocatalytic Removal of Nitrate from Water using Fe0/TiO2

Abstract

Fe/TiO 2 was synthesized by chemical reduction method using NaBH 4 as reducing reagent, it tested for removing (100 mg- N/L)nitrate from water photo-catalytically by irradiation with UV (20 W, 254 nm). Among the four loading content of iron in TiO 2 , 0%, 0.5% 1.0% 1.25%, the best result of 2 h nitrate conversion(52%) and N 2 selectivity(72%) was obtained at 0.5 wt%, using formic acid as hole scavengers(0.05 M); Compare to Ag/TiO 2 , the reduction rate and removal of TN was lower , but the cost of Fe/TiO 2 was lower, without nitrite formation.
