Efficient single-photon counting at 1.55 /spl mu/m via frequency upconversion

Abstract

We have achieved efficient single-photon detection at 1.55 /spl mu/m by sum-frequency mixing with a strong cw pump at 1064 nm in periodically-poled lithium niobate and subsequent single-photon counting in the visible.
