A novel antenna, composed of a bowtie dipole element above the ground plane and a metallic bridge for wide beamwidth, is proposed in this paper. The antenna shows a simple structure and is fed by a conventional balun (or a transition from microstrip line to coplanar stripline). Measurement shows that the antenna has an impedance bandwidth of 25.3% for stand wave ratio . In a frequency band of 11.5% (5.35-6 GHz), it presents radiation patterns with beamwidth of over 115 in H-plane and below 31 in E-plane and sidelobe levels below 10 dB. The radiation patterns of the proposed antenna and a referenced one with the same sizes but without the bridge are compared in this paper.
