To achieve high spectrum efficiency and combat the detrimental effects of frequency-selective fading, we consider space-time coded (STC) multiple input multiple output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Specifically, we propose the use of a simple convolutionally coded scheme in an OFDM system to effectively take advantage of the frequency diversity. This scheme is based on the use of a proper distribution of the channel bits in both the space and frequency domains along with an iterative receiver structure. Theoretical and numerical results based upon the use of Monte Carlo simulation will demonstrate the superiority of the proposed CC coded scheme over the conventional STC coded approach.
