A rectangular microstrip antenna (RMSA) with a rectangular slot etched along the nonradiating edge of the patch yields tunable dual-band operation. The slot modifies the resonant length of the RMSA and introduces an additional resonant mode. This configuration exhibits broadside radiation patterns at both resonant frequencies. The effects of the slot parameters on the tuneableness of the RMSA's resonant frequencies are investigated. This configuration is analyzed using the contour-integral method (CIM) with a modified edge-admittance network. The theoretical results are verified experimentally. (C) 2005
