Efficient Resource Allocation for Multicode Transmission over Multipath Channels

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the efficient resource allocation issue for multicode transmission over multipath channels with adaptive modulation and coding. The task is to dynamically determine the proper number of codes and the appropriate modulation coding scheme (MCS) for highest throughput, with the target frame error rate (FER) always satisfied. By theoretically demonstrating that the popular code-priority based allocation in fact fails to meet the target FER as it is claimed to be, we propose a simple yet efficient hybrid approach to take advantage of both code-priority and MCS-priority based resource allocations. Moreover, we propose a threshold-based resource allocation scheme to further reduce the computation overhead. We also give in-depth discussions on threshold selection and adaptive adjustment algorithms for maximum resource utilization. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the newly proposed resource allocation techniques.
