Circularly polarized meander patch antenna array

Abstract

The authors describe the design of an antenna array comprising of four identical short circuited meander patches etched on a substrate with a dielectric constant of 2.6 and a thickness of 3.2 mm. The meander patch element serves to decrease the resonant frequency of the antenna by increasing the loading. This quarter-wave antenna shows good polarisation characteristics over a wide angular range in both the azimuth and elevation planes. It should find application in mobile communications where compactness is desirable.
