The theoretical context in this paper is that of text comprehension psychology.\nWe present a brief review of some basic concepts that we hope will help to gain a better\nunderstanding of the two studies later introduced. The experimental intervention is\ncentred on the text and not on the subjects. The main goal of both studies is to compare\nthe differential eficacy of two types of aidsoutlines and objetiveswith regard to\nmemory processes, comprehension and information retrieval from expository texts. A\nsecond goal is to test the effect of some experimental modifications on texts. The\nobserved pattern of results supports the idea that storage and information retrieval\nprocesses are optimized by the introduction of an outline before reading the text. On the\nother hand, objetives seem to be a very limited and specific aid.
