Outage Probability of OFDM-Based Relay Networks with Relay Selection

Abstract

This paper presents an OFDM-based relay network with relay selection employing both decode-and-forward (DF) and amplify-and-forward (AF) approaches. For the network, we derive a lower-bound on the outage probability and the diversity order achievable in frequency selective fading channels. Simulation results show that both DF and AF relaying provides the diversity order same to that obtained from the lower-bound but DF relaying provides a SNR gain over AF relaying. It is also observed that the SNR gain of the DF gets larger as the channel diversity order increases, which makes DF relaying more favorable to the OFDM network with relay selection.
