Electro-optical colour effects by twisted nematic liquid crystal

Abstract

Voltage control of colours has been obtained by reflective and transmissive devices employing birefringent layers in conjunction with twisted nematic liquid-crystal cells. The construction, properties and possible applications of such devices are discussed.
