A digital spiking neuron can generate spike-trains having various inter-spike intervals (ISIs). Using an ISI-based modulation method, the spike-train can be symbolized by a digital code. We propose fast and rigorous analysis methods for the dynamics of the ISI and characteristics of the modulation. Then we can show that the DSN can encode a given input information into the output spike-train efficiently in a parameter case. Using an FPGA board, generation of a typical spike-train and its modulation can be confirmed in the laboratory.
