Air guiding with honeycomb photonic bandgap fiber

Abstract

We notice that honeycomb cladding was overlooked for air-guiding photonic bandgap fiber design. Air-silica honeycomb cladding is shown in this letter to be able to guide light in a slightly large-sized hollow core, with a reasonably wide bandwidth (/spl sim/200 nm). Noncircular air-hole shape is also explored for air-guiding honeycomb fiber design.
