Programmable digital radio

Abstract

For several years, GEC-Marconi Hazeltine (GMH) and Northrop Grumman Corp. (NGC) have been developing and field demonstrating a common module programmable digital radio (PDR) for army, air force and navy applications. This third generation 1.5 MHz to 2 GHz software radio handles not only the traditional narrow band waveforms (HF, VHF, UHF), but also many wide band waveforms (Link-16, DWTS, VRC-99) with the same programmable RF modules. It also provides the capability for implementing on-the-move mobile networking such as found in army packet radios.
