Hybrid Markov model for availability-guaranteed connection provisioning in optical WDM networks

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a hybrid Markov model (HMM) for the performance analysis of availability-guaranteed connection provisioning in optical WDM networks. Our proposed model uses a Markov chain of three branches where each branch corresponds to a protection policy. By combining the balance equations of these provisioning policies, the hybrid balance equations are obtained for the model. These equations are then used to formulate the blocking probability and network utilization of the hybrid model. Analytical results of the proposed model are compared to those of the simulation scenarios with different topologies. The comparisons show that the HMM is able to provide close results to those obtained under simulations.
