A Dynamic Adjusting Carrier Coverage-Based Load Balancing Scheme in LTE-Advanced System Based on Carrier Aggregation

Abstract

In LTE-Advanced system with Carrier Aggregation (CA), the load of Component Carriers (CCs) varies from one to another. In such case, a dynamic adjusting carrier coverage-based load balancing Scheme (DACC-LBS) is proposed. It solves the load balancing problem based on carrier's load, thus it overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional handover-based load balancing Scheme (TH-LBS) which is on the basis of cell's total load. At the same time, through transmit power control, the coverage of each CC is adjusted dynamically to ensure the maximum coverage CC in less-loaded cell that have unoccupied resource for handover. Simulation results demonstrate that DACC-LBS can improve the system throughput significantly by 20%, and meanwhile greatly enhance the load balancing factor by 11% when compared with TH-LBS.
